NEAPNEA contest welcomes non-dailies
Written by Ernesto Burden
Friday, 04 April 2008
The regional AP membership group’s annual writing/photo/design contest will be opened this year to member-produced non-daily publications. The new categories recognize the growing importance weeklies and other niche publications have in the newspaper industry today.

It also goes along with the broader license Member Choice will provide for the use of AP content in member non-dailies in 2009.

Here’s how the rules define the new categories:

  • General Excellence and Innovation: Specialty Publications. These include any niche publications published by the member newspaper company and showcasing locallyfocused content. The judging will consider print and Web niche publications.
  • General Excellence and Innovation: General Interest Weekly. This category includes any general interest weekly publications published by NEAPNEA member newspaper company and showcasing locally focused content.

Another rules change for 2008’s contest, photo entries must be submitted in digital format.
